No man can be a minister of Jesus Christ except he has the testimony of Jesus and this is the spirit of prophecy.
No man is a minister of Jesus Christ without being a Prophet. Salvation cannot come without revelation it is in vain for anyone to minister without it.A person may profit by noticing the first intimation of the spirit of revelation for instance, when you feel pure intelligence flowing into you, it may give you sudden strokes of ideas, so that by noticing it, you may find it fulfilled the same day or soon (i.e.) those things that were presented unto your minds by the Spirit of God, will come to pass and thus by learning the Spirit of God and understanding it, you may grow into the principle of revelation, until you become perfect in Christ Jesus.Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, 137 (25 March 1839).Thy mind, O man! if thou wilt lead a soul unto salvation, must stretch as high as the utmost heavens, and search into and contemplate the darkest abyss, and the broad expanse of eternity-thou must commune with God. A fanciful and flowery and heated imagination beware of because the things of God are of deep import and time, and experience, and careful and ponderous and solemn thoughts can only find them out.We have learned by sad experience that it is the nature and disposition of almost all men, as soon as they get a little authority, as they suppose, they will immediately begin to exercise unrighteous dominion.
Truth is "Mormonism." God is the author of it.Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, 121 ().The fundamental principles of our religion are the testimony of the Apostles and Prophets, concerning Jesus Christ, that He died, was buried, and rose again the third day, and ascended into heaven and all other things which pertain to our religion are only appendages to it.History of the Church, 2:52 (21 April 1834).Take away the Book of Mormon and the revelations, and where is our religion? We have none.
